Working on jumping
Hi! I’m trying to improve my jumping this season so I would love your feedback. I keep landing rear wheel first. Maybe I’m not getting tall enough in the air off the lip? Let me know what you think would help. Thanks!

You start standing up, but then you’re pushing the bike way out in front when the rear wheel lifts off. This is causing your weight to stay back until your arms straighten out and then it’s basically pulling you forward a bit and exaggerating the weight transfer, which is keeping your weight loaded in the rear though. This feels like a rear heavy landing on a small jump, but as you progress, on a big jump with a big lip this would ultimately result in a big rear buck (your weight sinks in over the rear, and then snaps you forward on the rebound of your shock). Great job asking about this early in jumping. Film yourself off the bike, jumping from one spot on the ground to the next… notice what your knees do over your ankle, notice what your upper body does on leaning forward; now compare it against this jump in terms of your body position, they should look similar.
Team Call TONIGHT
Sorry for the late notice but I'm going to try and host a zoomy zoom meeting tonight at 7pm. @Jeremy Jensen usually like 4pm if I can leave work early, or right at 5 otherwise. Right now I’ve got a couple freshly broken ribs so it’ll be several weeks before I’m back. When it gets really hot, I go in the morning though, I feel like I ride better when it’s not sweltering.

@Kyle Tobler thanks, my “ride with me” comment apparently aged like milk. Lmao
Hard side turns
I’m a left foot forward rider, which makes right turns harder than left. I have been working on them but still feel the lack of range of motion when compared to my left turns. This Sunday I was descending and trying to be deliberate about bending my knees and rotating my hips, but still felt limited. Then I noticed that on left hand corners I was squatting over my right leg as well as shifting my hips, but I wasn’t doing it on right corners (I’m guessing I was bending my knees but then standing up again slightly as I shifted my hips). For the rest of the downhill I focused not only on bending my knees, but also squatting on my left leg during right hand turns. This gave me significantly improved range of motion of my hips and vastly improved my right hand cornering. My mental cues for the descent were heavy feet, light hands, eyes up, squat low. It was a ton of fun, but made me realize I really need to work my single leg squats.

It's also worth noting "pointing your knees" into the turn helps get your hips opened up and angled into the turn. Basically settle into the "pocket" in your bike (where you could stand without touching the bar", turn your knees, put pressure on your back foot, dip your inner grip, get your outside elbow up, and when your front tire grips in the turn really pump the corner. With enough reps you'll be snapping corners more confidently.
