"Open Gate" Camera System are taking over, what you need to know.
I know I might be in the minority of hardcore camera nerds here, but wanted to bring attention to a term you may see thrown around with new cameras that are hitting the market, especially with the Panasonic S5 IIX hitting the streets now. The term "Open Gate" dates back to motion picture film cameras that were able to shoot directly to the stock, or in modern digital terms, use the camera's entire sensor to record the video signal, rather than cropping the image. What does this mean for us content creators? The ability to shoot both vertical and horizontal videos at the same time with a single setup! This past month I found a beautiful example from the floor of NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) where two of my favorite creators were shooting 6k resolution video in vertically and repurposed that content to deliver a 4k horizontal. Here's a great video they made on how they pulled this off. https://youtu.be/kTmhZ2Tdy9w What do you need to know? It requires some gear; they explain what they used - but I've been doing something similar with 4k shooting to 1080p upload. It just requires you to know how to frame your image and repurpose these shoots in post. What are your thoughts, and if you would, hit like on this if you're a camera nerd (like me) and want more content like that here?

@Vihang Nair Fully understand you on that. I have a feeling that I'll be picking up a few of these soon, especially now that they are on the blessed list for Netflix & Discovery+ distribution. The main thing to remember, the best camera ... is the one in your hands, even if that's only a phone.
Camera setup and teleprompting
What is the best way to setup camera and use a teleprompting feature, so that it´s easier to keep looking in the camera? Would love to see some example setups and hear about what hardware people are using to record.

From a hardware perspective - take a look at the Padcaster Parrot Pro (which I believe is in kickstarter now, but great track record or delivering great gear). Take a look at this review - https://youtu.be/CdxCoLAMLy0 I use a huge 14" teleprompter in our studio with an iPad Pro as the monitor, it's over kill but allows me to have the camera further back. Gerald also has a killer video on how to read from a prompter (and NOT look like you're reading) which is a huge skill to learn. Most all of the beam spliters on the market (the glass used in a prompter) is on par with each other, so the real question is which app and remote to use as this is the interface that you'll be dealing with and will get frustrated with if there's not enough granular control. Parrot make a good app, but I prefer PromptSmart Pro on iOS, and their remote app that I run on my phone.

@Stephen G. Pope Totally get you on that, I have one client that uses our prompter to get chunks of content out and in some videos only uses it for their bullet points. When I was doing weekly content of myself for a gig I found that it really helped me but using it while not looking like you were had a really steep learning curve.

@Yusif Lee Totally understand you on that and while I make content all day long for others I too suffer from the two items you described.
For those of you editing multicamera vidoe podcasts in Adobe Premiere
Take a look at AutoPod.fm a tool specifically designed for automated editing for video podcasts and creating social media clips. This came across my FYP on TikTok, and at the price point, they're asking we give it a go on a trial base here at our studio. I will report back our findings as things develop. Link to the TT -- seems they launched in the last day or so.

Will be using this in the coming weeks on a series of long-form video podcasts that we shot a while back. The project had a panel of 5-8 speakers, and 5 cameras all running on set. They were all kind of roaming around, so it's not as great of a use case as their examples.

Hey all, been away for a bit - was out on assignment shooting a pilot with a crew, the goal of getting this and testing is back on my radar - will report back in the next week or so.
Iphone?
What kind of tech stack do you use to record raw videos? It seems like an iPhone might do the track to begin. Any other favorite ring lights or limecube products?

@Stephen G. Pope 110% agree, I have loved seeing the creative process become more and more democratized over the years. The fact you can shoot and edit from a phone now, puts all of the power into those who will put themselves out there!

@Marshall Buick Did you see these? ZHIYUN MOLUS G60 and MOLUS X100 LED Lights Released | CineD LED Panels are good, but the panel quality has to be so high to maintain a high CRI <96, the only thing I wish these COB lights had were DMX for use in a larger studio setting. Also, fully agree focus on light and audio before you upgrade your camera systems.
