Training Introduction
Where I work, our training introductions cover a safety topic, status of the work site, and a general discussion of the upcoming work schedule. What topics do you include before you dive into your training topics?

Filler Words…
What tips do you have to get over the excessive use of filler words while presenting? I observed and instructor last week who had a bad habit of saying “So” as a filler word. It was very distracting, and definitely drew my attention away from the material. How have you overcome using them too much?

@Stuart Kibbe that’s good insight. I’ve always thought of it as a result of poor preparation and you have to be able to power through those small breaks where they fit. I’ve never even thought about letting the silence hang for a second or two, but I’m going to try that out!
ATD members
I've reached out to my local ATD chapter and I'm wondering if anyone in this group is a member. If so, do you find the group beneficial?

@Kim Scott that’s awesome! So you would say that it’s worth the money and time investment?

@Kim Scott very cool! I think I’ll go ahead and get involved in my local chapter. Maybe we see each other at big events sometime!
The 5 Whys
Today I had to take on an analysis of a problem at work. I utilized a tactic called the “The 5 Whys”. That’s where you identify the problem and then ask why it happened over and over until you get to the solution or root cause. I find it useful when looking at events to determine a strong training solution (if required). Just thought I’d throw it out there!

Welcome! Start here!
I am excited to start this new community for instructional designers, corporate trainers, adult educators, and other L&D professionals! This is meant to be a space where we can share ideas, problems, and best practices to help us in the day-to-day tasks we face in our professional lives. Please take a moment to comment on this post with your name, a little about your job, and what brought you to this community! I'll start. I'm Billy, and I currently work as an independent training specialist with a focus on nuclear energy and the oil/gas industry. I created this community because I think there are so many people out there with great ideas when it comes to training, and I wanted a supportive place where we can share those ideas!
