Where are my secret dopamine addicts?
(Slowly & embarrassingly raising my hand) Ever catch yourself picking up your phone without even realizing it? Likeโฆ you just checked it 2 minutes ago โ and somehow, youโre back on Instagram or Facebook again. Thatโs not just a habit. Thatโs dopamine doing its thing. Dopamineโs the brain chemical that makes us crave little โhitsโ โ something new, exciting, rewarding. And guess what? Every notification, like, comment, or DM feeds that craving. Itโs kind of wild once you see it. As a marketer, once I really understood how dopamine drives behaviorโฆ a lot of things clicked into place. Like why that โpost 15 times a day on Facebookโ strategy actually works like crazy right now. Itโs not just about more content โ itโs about staying top of mind during those exact moments when someoneโs brain is looking for its next hit. Your content becomes the reward. Thatโs how audience growth happens fast. Not because of algorithms โ but because of attention cycles. Of course, thereโs a flip sideโฆ Iโve seen people (myself included at times) burn out chasing those hits โ constantly checking stats, refreshing notifications, getting stuck in that loop. But if you use it intentionally, itโs super powerful: โข You build trust through consistency โข You create tiny micro-moments of connection all day long โข You stop fighting for attention and start flowing with it Anyway โ Iโve been paying more attention lately to my own โdopamine scrollsโ ๐ Trying to catch myself and ask, โWait, why am I picking up my phone right now?โ Itโs a game-changer just being aware. ๐ Curious โ have you noticed your own dopamine habits? Drop a comment if youโve caught yourself mid-scroll and laughed like, โWhat am I even doing here?โ Letโs be real โ we all do it. The key is using it on purpose.
