FAH SUN WU (Chinese Peanut Paste Sweet Soup Dessert or Chinese Peanut Cream Dessert). What a whirlwind! We had a lovely time at the Cookalong — Jackie, a real total pro, juggling Curry Puffs for her sister, Mee Siam, Acar, Garlic Prawns & Fah Sun Wu for her brother. How she does it all so fast? 😮 I made Fah Sun Wu in the thermomix using the same Cookidoo recipe for Zhi Ma Wu. a) I replaced the Black Sesame Seeds with Roasted Peanuts. The peanuts were roasted in the oven for 20 minutes. b) I replaced the walnuts with Peanut Butter C) I blitzed the roasted peanuts for 10 sec/Speed 7 first before putting in to cook with the rest of the ingredients so to produce a smooth texture. d) I added another 40gm of sugar. e) I added a pinch of salt The Fah Sun Wu had turned out nice & silky-smooth. My only complaint was the colour which was too pale to my liking. I like it to be darker brown. Next time when I cook Fah Sun Wu again I will put the peanuts to roast a little longer, perhaps another 10 minutes. I will also increase the peanut butter, perhaps another 50gm. Extending the roasting time for peanuts & adding extra of peanut butter may give the Fah Sun Wu a richer & darker hue (well, fingers crossed, that’ll do the trick! 😬

CKT Experiment
I cooked CKT last night and experimented with using some frozen rice noodles - it turned out very well. There's only 2 of us usually so I had some leftover rice noodles the last time I made Wat Tan Hor - they had been softened in the microwave already and then frozen in individual serving sizes about 2 weeks ago I think. I put them in for 2-3 mins on high in the microwave from frozen and then fried them.

Jackie picked up a 25kg bag of raw peanuts & got creative — using some for Fah Sun Wu (peanut paste sweet soup) while prepping veggies for Acar. Meanwhile, I dived into festive baking….I made Cornflake Crunch, Christmas treats for my neighbours’ children. Cathy was taking a break from cooking & stayed chatting with us. Halfway through the Cookalong Jenny surprisingly joined us virtually from Malaysia where she’s on holiday! She kept us laughing with tales of her adventures — apparently she needed a new suitcase to bring all the goodies back home!🧳 I whipped up my Cornflake Crunch with the thermomix — effortless, except for the bit where I had to fiddle with spooning them into tiny paper cups 😅. Baking was a breeze, done in 5 - 7 minutes!

Think we are ditching the shop-bought ones now! Most of us in MPH have nailed them ourselves — no going back! 😄
