Halfeti Amber is a Dubai Mall exclusive. Not an easy one to get in the US but worth the hunt IMO. It keeps what I love about Halfeti but rounds the edges with beautiful amber and soft suede, and performs much better than the OG on my skin. Solid 10/10.

We finally got some real fall weather today, and I'm jumping up and down with happiness. Fall / Winter is my favorite season for fragrances, and I finally get to put away all these freshies and pull out my woods and spices and dark florals. But even more than that, it's Halloween season. And so I really get to have fun. Looking at my collection, I've put together a selection of Halloween friendly fragrance to wear over the next 13 days. And we are doing an informal Halloween film festival watching some of our favorite Halloween movies, so I'm trying to pair each fragrance with a movie. I would love to get y'all's take on this, too. What are y'alls favorite Halloween / Fall fragrances? What are you most excited to wear? And is there a Halloween movie that's on your "must watch" list? And before I start, I want to single out Xyrena as a brand. I am excluding them from the list for the most part because otherwise, they might be the entire list. They have fragrances based on tons of my favorite horror movies, and they are based right here in Austin, Texas (though they don't have a public storefront, and the nearest retail spot is in Oregon). If you've never seen their stuff, I encourage you to go visit their web page. Their bottles are shaped like VHS tapes, and the boxes are designed like old VHS movie boxes from the 80s and 90s. 10/19 - PDM Percival (Montagne Perceval). The ultimate mall fragrance that brings back memories of shopping in the 80s and 90s. This might not sound like Halloween, until you pull out your VCR and put in Chopping Mall (1986). The ultimate robot killer final girl movie from a time when movies like this could get green lit and funded. They really don't make them like this anymore. 10/20 - HexMundi Love Witch. Inspired by the movie The Love Witch (2016). It's ritual tea, bright citrus, fruits and claret, that echoes the tea and wine she uses to serve her potions. If you've never seen it, it's a glorious and loving homage to 1960s technicolor exploitation movies.

Today's SOTD is YSL MYSLF L'Absolu, making this the third consecutive day I've been trying brand-new (to me) fragrance samples. And apparently, I'm enjoying this little adventure so much that I've decided to extend it for a fourth day. There's a surprise newcomer waiting for tomorrow. But first, today's YSL. I already have a sample of MYSLF Le Parfum, which I've enjoyed without being completely convinced that I needed a full bottle. And while I still want to wear these two side by side before reaching any firm conclusions, I can already tell you that I prefer L'Absolu. The difference is largely in the direction YSL has taken the fragrance. Where Le Parfum emphasizes the warmer, sweeter combination of vanilla and amber, L'Absolu heads in a brighter, fresher direction. Ginger, citrus, and cardamom bring a lively, aromatic spiciness to the composition, while the orange blossom that helps define the MYSLF DNA remains very much in evidence. It's a combination I find particularly appealing. There's enough freshness to make it feel invigorating, enough spice to keep it interesting, and enough underlying sophistication to prevent it from becoming just another pleasant, forgettable fragrance. And perhaps its greatest strength is its versatility. I can easily imagine wearing L'Absolu in spring, summer, autumn, or winter. It doesn't strike me as a fragrance that needs a particular temperature, occasion, or wardrobe to work. It's simply something I could reach for almost any day of the year and feel confident wearing. That's a pretty valuable quality in a fragrance, especially when you're trying to become more selective about adding bottles to an already growing collection. I'll definitely be doing a side-by-side comparison with Le Parfum soon, because I want to give both a fair opportunity. But at the moment, L'Absolu has taken the lead. Current status: Three new samples in three days, and another winner. L'Absolu is my early favorite of the MYSLF fragrances I've tried. Side-by-side testing still to come—and a surprise fourth newcomer tomorrow!

Well, I find myself single again and thought it’s time for another solo beast mode night. So I poured myself an old fashioned to sit down in front of Netflix and topped up heavily on the Smesh I wore earlier today but then had a crazy thought - I wondered if the warm woody spiciness of Smesh would go well with the crisp ginger lavender of Polaris. Holy crap, this is another good combination. Polaris on its own is very enjoyable, a little on the sweet side for my taste but I enjoy its crisp aromatics; Smesh has this really unique dusty powdery dry woody spicy aromatic mix that really comes alive with some crisp sweetness. I think this combination smells fantastic, and I’m gonna wear it out sometime. I’ve probably got seven or eight sprays of each going and I think I’m radiating a nuclear cloud of warm fresh, spiciness and crisp, lightly sweet aromatics. People down the hall can probably smell me from here lol These are pretty esoteric, so I’m guessing not a lot of you have both of these - maybe tomorrow I’ll go through my collection and see if I can find similar scent profiles that would go together this way - like maybe Vibrato or LNDH + Spicebomb or something like that
