Curious question for builders 👀 Why do most builders of AI voice agents today use VAPI or Retell, but relatively few use Telnyx AI Assistants—even though Telnyx is commonly used for the underlying telecom layer? Would love to hear real-world experiences or tradeoffs others have seen.
@Henry Clark Thanks for the detailed insight—that makes a lot of sense. I can see how VAPI and Retell being more “agent-first” with faster setup and better built-in tooling would naturally attract most builders, especially for speed to market. What I’m really trying to figure out now is more of a long-term strategy question: For someone planning to build seriously in this space, which platform would you personally feel safest investing time into—knowing it needs to be competitive today, but also stable enough to rely on in the future? A few things I’m wondering: - Do you think it would be worth investing effort into making Telnyx AI more systematized and builder-friendly, or is the gap too large compared to VAPI/Retell to justify that? - Would you have concerns onboarding real customers onto VAPI or Retell in case of major price increases or the risk of them going out of business? - Given the direction of the market, should I also be looking at ElevenLabs as an alternative instead of VAPI or Retell? I’m trying to balance developer experience, long-term platform risk, and business stability. Curious how you think about that tradeoff.
