Happy New Year 🎉
In the news - Over 20% of videos shown to new YouTube users are AI slop
I think this will continue to be important in 2026 as @Ryan Doser regularly highlights. Good to see a news article about it. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/dec/27/more-than-20-of-videos-shown-to-new-youtube-users-are-ai-slop-study-finds AI Summary 'The article reveals that over 20% of videos recommended to new YouTube users are low-quality AI-generated content, termed “AI slop,” designed to generate views and revenue. A study by Kapwing found 278 AI slop channels with billions of views and millions of subscribers worldwide, often targeting children or relying on absurd, plotless content. This growing industry thrives in middle-income countries, using AI tools to monetise attention despite platform efforts to limit inauthentic content. The ecosystem includes scammers selling viral-content tips, highlighting the dominance of algorithms over creativity in distributing such material.'

Imagine what percentage of Ai slop is on short form video platforms like Instagram and Tiktok, probably double that or more

Hi @Ariel Sumulat Welcome
Alternate Distribution Channels?
One of my colleagues is a talented creative that writes Anthems for projects. He wrote one for a recent project we did together and then, a myriad of adaptations including this Christmas card. https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/orangejacket1/the-christmas-card. He launched it just before Christmas and has seen quite a spike in searches. With social media being soooo busy, got me thinking about what other kind of distribution channels we have access to going forward.... ? Who's got a project that could benefit from this? I'm happy to share what I know.

I think it depends on the type of digital content. For quick entertainment and scrolling your Instagram and TikTok will still be leaders. I think these platforms will downgrade Ai generated slop content successfully and thin out the crowd. For content where trust is needed, like service and products, search engine type platforms like YouTube, Rumble, podcast platforms will expand. I think fairly soon as Ai gets better your Ai assistant might be the one who suggests posts to watch instead relying on their own individual algorithms because it will know you better than you know yourself 😁 your likes and dislikes. Of course it also depends how open these platforms will be to third party tools so they could view their content. And you'l have your " Get off the internet " trend type of people. Think private in person events. Although I think that will be small amount in the long run
Hi
Just wanted to say hi to everyone! 👋 Looking forward to be in this group

@Shelly Frank Hi Shelly. To answer your question, for now I'm finishing up making social media content for the next 2-3 months so I could build a decent following. I aim 5 posts/day repurposed on 4 social media platforms so I got my work cut out for me. Maybe even start doing long form videos as well. Once I reach that I'll see what kind of of entry level AI course solopreneurs and small business owners/their employees would want and I'll create a group course. Long term project is to create a business system based on AI and automations that would self learn, modify to improve its self in a bunch of areas of business tasks but that's down the road as I have to learn a bit more about automation and Ai agents :)
