Starting a new collection
My 11 year old grandson came over to visit the other day and he asked me why I always have a different watch on when he sees me. I explained that i collect them. He then asked why and how I started and if he could see them? naturally I said yes and explained that my father his Great grandfather left me four watches when he passed away three years ago. two pocket watches and two wrist watches. he looked at all the watches I now have but kept going back to one that my father had given me. he asked if he could hold it. he started to cry. i asked him why he said he was so happy to hold something that was his great grandfather's and that he remembered him always wearing it and it brought back great memories.. I showed him how to clean it , how to set the time . and explained that over time the battery needs to be changed. then I gave him the watch and told him it was his turn to be the keeper of his great grandfather's watch and to always remember all the great times they had when ever he wears it.. he didn't want the flashy new watches or the expensive watch in my collection. the one that touched his heart was the basic watch that brought him to tears when he held it.. little does he know , but I ordered him a six watch case for his birthday. and for the next five years we are going to get him a new watch for his collection on his birthday.
