“Coaching with Compassion—Building Strong Girls On and Off the Field”
Girls’ softball is about more than mechanics—it’s about belonging and self-worth. In my book, I wrote about the importance of listening, encouraging, and helping every player find her voice. A great coach sees the whole person, not just the player. Reflection: - How do you build trust with your athletes? - What’s one way you help girls support each other? - How do you handle tears, nerves, or tough losses? Prompt: Share your best tip for building confidence in young female athletes. Or, tell us about a breakthrough moment with a player who needed extra encouragement.

Youth Softball Coaching: Guiding the Next Generation
Stepping into a coaching role with young softball players is an incredible opportunity to shape not just athletes, but confident, resilient young women. Here’s my best advice for new softball coaches: - Make every practice a safe place to try, fail, and try again. Growth comes from courage, not perfection. - Celebrate teamwork and kindness just as much as big hits and great plays. - Teach the fundamentals, but also teach self-belief—every player should feel seen and valued. - Stay positive, even when the scoreboard isn’t in your favor. Your energy is contagious. - Communicate clearly, listen often, and always encourage questions. - Remember: You’re building more than skills—you’re building character and lifelong memories. New to coaching? What’s your top concern? Experienced coaches—what’s the one lesson you wish you’d known sooner? Let’s lift each other up and grow the game together!
