Options Strategy
When you present any type of pricing to your customers, you need to give them options. Here’s what’s called the three-tier strategy: The Three-Tier Strategy Always present three options: • Good: Basic installation meeting minimum standards • Better: Standard professional installation with quality materials • Best: Premium installation with top-tier materials and extra services Most clients choose the middle option, but presenting three levels makes your standard pricing seem reasonable and gives upgrade opportunities. Like when buying an iPhone, you have options. Not just one iPhone. Same with your quotes. Remember an estimate is just that, an estimate based on preliminary facts. After you have the info and do a thorough a job site visit, you can then prepare a proper “quote” or provide a proper “proposal” Get what your worth! Let’s Go!!!

Welcome to The Substrate Academy Welcome to the community! Whether you're a seasoned flooring contractor, a new installer, or someone who wants to understand why floors fail and how to prevent it, you're in the right place. This community exists for one reason: to help you master what happens before the flooring goes down. Because the truth is, most flooring failures aren't about the flooring itself—they're about what's underneath. Who is this community for? This is a space for flooring contractors, installers, inspectors, facility managers, and anyone involved in commercial or residential flooring projects. If you've ever dealt with a callback, a moisture-related failure, or just want to level up your substrate knowledge, you belong here. What you'll find inside The Classroom contains structured training on moisture testing methods, surface preparation techniques, mitigation systems, and documentation practices. Work through the modules at your own pace. The Community is where we share job site photos, ask questions, troubleshoot problems, and learn from each other's wins and failures. No question is too basic here. How to get started First, introduce yourself in the comments below. Tell us what kind of flooring work you do, where you're located, and what brought you here. Then head over to the Classroom and start with Module 1 if you want structured learning, or jump into the Community categories and start participating. A few ground rules Be helpful. Be honest. Share what you know. Ask when you don't. This is a no-judgment zone—we've all made mistakes on job sites, and that's how we learn. Looking forward to learning alongside you. Jason Ramsay
