Weekends create separation
You have to use weekends to get ahead of the competition. When I was playing at Arkansas I used yo do this routine every weekend Make 200 shots Saturday and Sunday Full body lift Saturday or Sunday Watch a total of 1 hour of film (could be 30 min both days or 1 hour on one day) Play pick up at least one day (in the offseason, during the season I wouldn’t do this) That routine helped me go from not playing at all to starting in a year and a half! So when I ask you what are you doing this weekend to get better I’m asking for a reason because it works So what are we doing this weekend to get better?
Winning mentality
This was on my mind so I wanted to get on here and talk to yall about how to build a winning mentality and championship attitude When I was playing in high school I was always pretty good so didn’t always have to have that championship mindset or that massive competitiveness because I would just let my talent take over. When I got to college that didn’t work at all and I was on the bench so fast. That’s just me though. If you are in high school or younger and you aren’t the best or you don’t perform like you want you HAVE to have a winning mentality. What is a winning mentality? It’s focusing on the details!! Winning is in the details and if you can wrap your head around that you will win BIG. When I say the details I mean getting to be on time the night before the game, being hydrated well before you play, watching that extra 5 minutes of film, going to the gym and making those 200 shots, giving that one little extra effort in the game to dive for the lose ball or set the hard screen, details details details.. focus on that the next time you are looking to get better results. Trust me on this. I will not tell you guys ANYTHING that I didnt do myself or see work at the HIGHEST level of college basketball so listen to me on this. I promise it will help you! Let’s go!
How I want you to watch film
Lots people have been messaging me on how to watch film so I’m going to give a step by step process on the most effective way to watch film so take notes here 1 grab a notebook and something to write with 2 decide what SPECIFIC skill you want to work on 3 turn on the film of either you or players your want to replicate 4 only look for that specific skill and write down what you see as they set up the skill, think about all the things they did before executing the skill not just the skill itself 5 review those notes before each game 5 start working on the moves in games based on your notes. I promise you that that’s process that’s going to get you the best and fastest results!! Let’s get it!
Weekend is where we get better
The weekend is where you separate yourself. Grab a player archetype workout and go do one of them this weekend with game like intensity and then come back and tell the community how it went!
New way to work on your shooting
I’ve been talking with a lot of my old buddies (nba players, overseas players) and they are changing how they work on their shot. They use to go in the gym and just work on game shots and that was it but now they are focused on those same game shots but shooting them faster than they even would in games. Didn’t make sense to me at first but they all said the same thing. “The more comfortable the got with fast shots in workouts the easier it was to slow it down in games and it became way easier for them” So next time you are in a shooting workout try to really speed your shot up. If your mechanics and form start to fall off then you are shooting to fast but as fast as you can shoot the ball while maintaining your form and mechanics that’s how I want you to work on your shot for the next few weeks and let me know what you think!
