A Gentle Check-In Before You Push Forward
Before continuing with something that feels heavy — routines, transitions, expectations, conversations — it can help to pause and check a few things first. You might ask yourself: - Do I have the capacity for this right now? - Is my child regulated enough to engage? - Is something else contributing to the difficulty? - Would slowing down reduce pressure rather than add to it? Sometimes the most supportive choice isn’t pushing through — it’s pausing. Pausing isn’t giving up. It's information.

A Calm Script for When Things Feel Hard
When emotions are running high — for you or your child — it can be hard to find words that don’t escalate the moment. You can use or adapt any of these: “It’s okay to feel like this.” “We can slow this down.” “Nothing’s gone wrong — this is just hard right now.” “Let’s pause and take a breath together.” This isn’t about fixing the moment. It's about choosing words that reduce pressure and support regulation — including your own. Use what fits your family, and leave the rest.
