🌱 A New Year Means New Containers
Today I submitted a letter of resignation, sharing that my last day would be January 7th. There was no response… but I was immediately removed from the schedule and employee communications.I won’t lie — I expected a little pettiness, and they showed up right on cue. 😌 It made me laugh, but it also felt like a very clear New Year reminder: When something no longer supports your growth, it’s okay to leave it behind. A new year isn’t just about adding goals or resolutions. Sometimes it’s about releasing old containers that have become too small. In Pilates, we know growth happens when there’s space — the same is true in life. Same roots. New pot. 🌱And honestly… perfect timing. If this resonates with you, I’d love to know: What’s something you’re leaving behind as you step into this new year? — Jessica
Hold on, I have to get it right.
During a one-on-one session, my client kept leaning slightly into his left hip during footwork. He didn’t feel it. He wasn’t doing anything “wrong.” He didn’t even realize it was happening. When I pointed it out, he asked a very normal question:“Is something wrong with me?” The answer was no. Most of us move through life without really paying attention to how we move. We sit, stand, walk, exercise, and work on autopilot. Over time, our bodies adapt—favoring one side, avoiding effort, or compensating in quiet ways we don’t notice. A small shift like leaning into one hip can come from everyday things like:• sitting at a desk or driving a lot• carrying kids, bags, or stress on one side• old injuries we forgot about• stiffness, fatigue, or tension• or habits that formed years ago Pilates is different from most workouts because it slows movement down. Instead of just burning calories or pushing harder, we focus on noticing what your body is actually doing. That awareness is what helps people move better, feel stronger, and often feel relief in places that have felt “off” for years. Sometimes we figure out why the body is compensating right away. Sometimes it takes time. But the first step is always the same: awareness. You can’t change what you don’t notice. And once you notice it, change becomes possible. Pilates isn’t about flexibility, fancy equipment, or being “good at exercise.” It’s about learning how your body moves—so everyday life feels easier. Have you ever felt like one side of your body works harder than the other, even if you couldn’t explain why?
