Hook Sharpening....
Just found this gem of a short from Matt Collins, if you don't follow him...you should...he's absolutely BRILLIANT!! https://youtube.com/shorts/bLn4yk24b4o?si=Xw9VBQHoerTvVvrH WHO'S SHARPENING THEIR OWN HOOKS??? I don't mind saying...I don't. I value my time at aroun £50 an hour and JPrecision hooks serve me extremely well. Then I just touch up and hone as I go...so much easier!!! I did buy one of those Nash abrasion wheels a few years ago, but i don't really use it to be honest, i just do it by hand on the bank. https://www.jprecisionhooks.co.uk/ Check them out if you haven't heard of them...btw...I AM NOT SPONSORED BY THEM!! 🤣🙌👍👌

I love my Pyrex rig box…it does everything I need it to do…airtight, see-through, hard-wearing and available without the obligatory “catch the Carp-Angler” price-tag 😂

Rig Mechanics!!!
Not many would argue that there's been a greater game-changer in Carp Fishing than the invention of the Hair-Rig right??? Rigs have certainly changed over the years, I think I've tried them all at one stage or another, and it took me a really long time to settle on a select few. For me, I've always wanted to be able to change the hook quickly, and so Multi-Rigs have been my "go-to" for about 70%, with Chods, and the Withy Pool making up the rest. There have been some insanely good concepts brought in to the limelight over the years by various anglers...Steve Renyard's "Hermit Rig" springs to mind...making use of elasticated material to create a bungee affect on the hooklink, it sounds genius...I've never tried it though. Who has got the courage to come up with a concept rig and dedicate the time to trial it and see if it catches fish? It's a huge risk to take if someone only has limited time on the bank isn't it? I guess it comes down to what you want from fishing...stick to the tried and tested and catch some awesome Carp? Or be a pioneer and try to find that edge that nicks you one or two more?
Ready-made rigs? Yes, or no?
I'm feel super lucky to be rich in lots of things...family, friends, etc etc, but there's one thing I always feel really short of and that is time. I can't seem to find an hour crumpled up on floor. I know that lots of people are in the exact same position, for whatever reason, work, family commitments, looking after an aging parent, etc. It can be tempting to save 15-20 minutes and buy a set of three ready made rigs. Lots of companies sell them (Korda, OMC, Fox, Nash), but I worry that if I ever lost a fish, I would blame the rig if it wasn't me who actually tied it. I like to think i've got a very internal locus of control, accepting things often happen to me that are a direct result on my own poor decision making and I just know I would totally get the hump with whichever company made the rig if I lost that fish. Does anyone use them as a regular part of their go to armoury?
