Rig Mechanics!!!
Not many would argue that there's been a greater game-changer in Carp Fishing than the invention of the Hair-Rig right???
Rigs have certainly changed over the years, I think I've tried them all at one stage or another, and it took me a really long time to settle on a select few. For me, I've always wanted to be able to change the hook quickly, and so Multi-Rigs have been my "go-to" for about 70%, with Chods, and the Withy Pool making up the rest. There have been some insanely good concepts brought in to the limelight over the years by various anglers...Steve Renyard's "Hermit Rig" springs to mind...making use of elasticated material to create a bungee affect on the hooklink, it sounds genius...I've never tried it though.
Who has got the courage to come up with a concept rig and dedicate the time to trial it and see if it catches fish? It's a huge risk to take if someone only has limited time on the bank isn't it? I guess it comes down to what you want from fishing...stick to the tried and tested and catch some awesome Carp? Or be a pioneer and try to find that edge that nicks you one or two more?
