Good afternoon folks!
I just had a mentee ask me what content might be useful for him to grab while he is traveling to Germany. In addition to answering his specific question, I wanted to also use it as a way to give some general advice for gathering aspirational content.
So in general, when you have beautiful views of places that you can't go to often, you should definitely put some effort into taking pictures where you are in the picture enough that they know it's you, but the majority of the picture is the gorgeous scenery. This way it shows that you have a level of success that you can go to these places and have as professional as possible looking photographs or b-roll of these places.
Now you might be thinking, "Why does this matter at all?" You're always talking about just giving value and directly actionable tips. And good. I'm actually kind of glad that you're thinking that. But here's the thing: If you pair something that is aspirational, meaning it makes potential clients recognize that they want to lead a life similar to yours, WITH giving them direct value, it amplifies both of those aspects.
And for bonus tips, throw in something that shows humility, so that you still seem relatable to those people that can't even imagine a future where they would be able to travel to the place that you are.
When you put this all together, potential clients will think,
"Wow, this guy has really built a pretty awesome life for itself."
So then they subconsciously think, "Okay, so I'm more willing to listen to them because they've done what I want to do."
And then they also subconsciously think, "Wow, they also directly helped me out. What an awesome guy."
So then they subconsciously or consciously make the choice to follow you or like more of your stuff or share it around to someone because they think it's really cool and they could get value from it (which then raises their social status,)...
or they simply do just follow because it looks really cool, and then they get even more value later, and they reach that same type of aformentioned conclusion, just later.
So don't waste this unique content by not adding actual value to it. That would be lazy or just an entertainer-type of posting.
And then when it comes to the "Yeah, but I don't really want to have to worry about recording anything while I'm traveling!"...
Yeah, I get it, we should all live in the moment. BUT at the same time, this is such a ridiculously small sacrifice that you can use to then go on a tremendous amount of more vacations when you make money from correctly documenting the journey that you are currently on. It's not like you have to have your phone out every two seconds. Just use it for the things that you realize will have a huge impact on your ability to provide content that actually stops the scroll and then provides value.
So since this specific client is a bodybuilder, , I would say to document your meals out because you can use it for some type of content about cheat meals or balance. I would also document the meal prep that you do bring with you so that you can make content about still caring about how you feel and function even when you are away. I would document any workouts that you do that are far different from a standard gym, because then you can make content about training in unusual conditions or while traveling. I would definitely get some cool pictures of you standing in the foreground of a picture (showing off your insane physique) while there is a beautiful landscape in the main frame of the picture and you can use that to talk about the beauty of God's creation since you're a faith-based creator, and this demonstrates that pretty easily. And then you can take a few pictures of you rolling luggage along and sitting on the plane to talk about the importance of walking around on the plane as much as you can to stay mobile, and also essentials for traveling while being fit/bodily. And also, making sure to take extra rest before and after trips so that you actually enjoy the trip despite the extra stress of traveling. And something about not getting sick when you try to go back to 100% after an extended trip. Since most of that content will be relatively unique to your journey, I would frame most of the hooks in first person. So instead of saying, "Here's what you should do to blah blah blah," I would instead say, "Here's what I do to blah blah blah." Since your ideal client would aspire to be like you, they will connect the dots and realize that if they want to be like you, they should do this too. It kind of makes you sound more humble but conveys the same message, and it seems to be trending well for most people on social media right now. It's really easy to come off as preachy if you're always preaching instead of showing how you practice what you preach. In other words, show, don't tell.
Relatively lengthy answer, but hey, didn't want to miss anything. Hope this helps you out, and let me know any questions. You guys can feel free to save this or write down points that apply more directly to your next travel, so that you don't miss out on any opportunities to make some cash back on your expensive trip to fund the next one, all while helping people build their healthiest selves!
