Let’s start at the end…
Or almost the end. I find that finishing your pieces is not often talked about or shown. I have made a very easy hat, crocheted in rows of ribbing that I am now sewing together. I have a series of photos because I think it will be easier for you to see than a video would be. You will have to give me feedback on that! First up a photo of my yarn needles. Choose a needle with a large eye and a blunt tip. The purple edge is my last row and the blue edge shows you the way my foundation chain looks. The last photo just shows the long yarn tail I left which I will use to sew my hat together.
Let’s start at the end…
Closing the top
Once you reach the top of the hat, you will have an opening that needs to be closed. Just use the same yarn tail and weave it through the rows around the top. Pull it tight and your hole will disappear! Fasten off and weave in the ends. That’s a whole post on its own….

Back bump
Here’s a photo of the edge when you have worked your stitches into the back bump.

Back bump
Finding the back bump…
The pattern instructions say, “working in back bump of each chain…” WHAT???? Photo one shows a chain from the front side. This is what you are used to seeing. Now turn your chain over. Photo two shows the “back” of your chain. Can you see the bump? This is where you will insert your hook. See photo three. So, instead of working from the front as you may be more familiar with, you will be working into the back or “wrong” side of the chain. What this does is give you a very neat finish on that edge of your work.

Welcome
Welcome! I am glad that you have found this community and hope that you will join. Although I have Crochet in the name of this group, Makers of all kinds are welcome here. I don’t know many Makers who do only one fiber, craft or art. I will probably stray into other areas when I get excited about a new project and invite you to do that too. Do you love it? Share it with us! What are you working on this week?
