Looking for the Light
This is one of my personal favorite paintings I've done. It's actually on display at a gallery right now (🙌). I was really able to capture the soul of the Sonoran Desert. My home. There is something about the way the desert looks as the sun is going down that is just magical.
As a painter, I see the world differently. I see things in terms of light and shadow, warmth and coolness (as in: warm and cool colors), and interesting shapes. It doesn't really matter what the actual thing is. It could be a tree. It could be a dumpster in an alley. It could be anything.
Our brains are wired to name and identify things and sort them into categories of known and unknown, safe and not safe. Seeing the world as an artist has helped me to make those categories more fuzzy and see that the world around me is just one Whole expressing itself as many parts.
