Mentor, Pay Forward, Making a Legacy
Gentlemen, many of you that have been in these communities and have excelled in the levels to at least level 7 and have received several challenge coins. So my question is what are you going to do with them? I have seen some put them on display, I heard some keep them for memories and keepsakes. How can we as gentlemen in this community promote and encourage others?
Many of you know that I am currently raising my grandson who is now 13yrs old, about over a year ago he approached me and said “ I want to be like you and dress like you.” This was more than I could ask for, that my grandson saw certain qualities, morals, integrity, and standards that I have places on myself to the point that he wants to be like me. And to make this even more special he is my grandson by marriage, meaning that when I married my wife he became my grandson by marriage. So the mere fact that he wants to be like me and looks up to me is not only an honor but it is a great responsibility and a privilege that Ido not take lightly,
So over the past year I have been working with him by mentioning him in becoming a gentleman, he likes to wear button down shirts and polo's, chinos, slacks an and sometimes jeans, He loves to wear blazers with his clothes and he love wearing suits, ( for a male his age in this day and time is a very impressive thing). He even has his own steamer that he steams his clothes, and every evening his steams his clothes for the next day. I have had him watching numerous videos from RMS, Antonio’s video, and many others videos and pod cast online, then we discussed them. We went shopping and I let him make his selections and I would advise him on his selections. He wanted lo wear colognes so I found a place where they carry the same fragrances in a clone brand packaging, (almost the exact same designer fragrances but in a clone version) this was perfect for him to learn and grow with). We discussed grooming, and basic gentlemen topics. I have seen this 13 year old boy turn into a young man, to the point his teachers at school have sent home letters praising home for the young man and leader that he is. Everywhere we go he is constantly receiving compliments and praises for his look and his manners.
So how can I reward him for his efforts and continue to encourage him? By presenting him with one of my challenge coins and to let him know how proud of him I am, and that one day he will be able to join this community and hopefully earn his own and pass his knowledge on to someone that he mentors. By doing this I am paying to forward , mentoring him and creating a legacy that one day he will be able to pass on to his son.
So gentlemen, I encourage and challenge you to find a family member, a young man in your community, neighborhood, church, wherever, and start pouring in your knowledge and experience to them and when you feel they have reached a level that has given them encouragement and a new found appreciation give them a gift that will not only encourage them but will remind them that someone cared enough to teach them to be a better version of themselves.
