Day two even better
Saturday morning began with me picking up Mark Joseph and his son at the Hardrock for a book signing at 9:15. All my drivers were coordinated and confirmed earlier that morning with a few texts. What an interesting day spent with the producer of the Reagan movie, Narnia, and the Passion of Christ. We had basically a whole day from 9 am to 9 pm together. After a ridiculously lackluster interest at the book store (an uber leftwing bookstore that catered to a group of witches -no kidding replete with pointed hats and a girl who wore a short that said I am a cat- Mark and I had a big laugh- although he is clearly on the other political side of the patrons not a single person even said hi to him). The great news is we had a 4 minute walk to the Bob Dillon museum and Mark is working on his next movie,/ documentary on Dillion. From that I took Mark and his son to the Will Rogers Parade. His son had never been to parade let alone ride on a float. Big day for him. Finally my buddy Ray a fellow driver, met me at the casino for the big event. The awards banquet was fascinating with people from as far away as Germany and artist from from Georgia to Oregon receiving medallions for their western books, music, and films. This was the inaugural Oklahoma location for this 20 something year awards program. Because it is entitled the Will Rogers Medallion Award, my friend Tad Jones the Executive Director of the Will Rogers Memorial and Jennifer Rogers the great granddaughter of Will got on their board and persuaded the awards to move from Fort Worth to here. I was completely blown away by the authenticity of these writers and musicians and feel I may have made some life long acquaintances and friends. It was of course a western theme so I donned my Hopi bolo tie, Indian bead belt, European goat skin Lucessee ropers, CT PoW shirt, 1987 MTM Royal blue blazer, and my grandfather’s Open Road silver belly from the late 1940’s. My wife wore a suede skirt that is 30 years old. Ironically this was the same combo she and I wore to the big Bolo Tie party in OKC at the Cowboy Hall of Fame in the 1990’s
Fantastic evening!!
