Being Well Read
Good morning gentlemen,
Know with this journey that we are on we find that people notice us more and more. These people when they see you; the way you dress, the way you carry yourself, how you open doors for people, the kind gestures you show. But they also expect you to be knowledgeable in current events, in your career, in family matters. Yes style, confidence, chivalry, these are all nice to have but they also have some level of expectations of you to be knowledgeable of certain things. Things like current events, knowledge of your craft in your career. There is nothing more disappointing than for a well dressed person to not have a clue about current events or knowledge of their craft. Why is this important? Because when events happen, situations, problems, they are almost always going to look for someone who looks like they are in authority, someone that knows what they are doing, or can handle situation.
Trust me when people walk into a place they scope to see who is in charge or who looks like they know what they are doing. I cannot tell you when I have been in places and there is a situation and people would automatically come to me, and I am like “ I’m sorry I’m not in charge of this.” Or when someone is talking about current events, they will look at me and say” so what do you think about this? Or what is your perspective on this?”
Gentlemen, I encourage you to be knowledgeable of current situations, events, and in your work environment, your craft and the companies policies, procedures, and practices. You will see the respect you will receive, and you will become a person that people will look up to.
Now, gentlemen, I’m not saying you have to take what you see or read on the news as facts or everything you hear or read as gold, what I am saying is know what going on around you. This could also help you avoid certain situations at work , in your community, or in general.Keep up on current events, your career and industry advancements and policies. This way when you’re approached you are well read and well versed in the discussions that are around you.
