Shaped by Discipline
A sculptor does not reveal a masterpiece with a single strike of the chisel. Each deliberate cut removes what is unnecessary and reveals what was always possible beneath the surface.
Character is formed the same way. We are not transformed by dramatic moments, but by the quiet discipline of returning to the work each day. The obstacles, failures, and imperfections are not evidence that we are unfinished—they are the very material from which strength, wisdom, and resilience are carved.
The Stoics remind us that our task is not to control the finished outcome, but to govern today’s actions. If we meet this day with courage, honesty, and discipline, then we have fulfilled our responsibility. Tomorrow’s shape will take care of itself.
