I’ve talked a lot about why we fired our lead generation companies from a cost perspective, but what I haven’t shared is why we fired them from a time management standpoint.
For me, the defining moment was at dinner with my family.
📌 The Zillow phone rang.
📌 I got up, took the call, and booked an appointment.
📌 By the time I came back, dinner was over.
I had missed it.
The Wake-Up Call
I got into real estate because my previous career had me working 80-hour weeks—and I never saw my family.
I thought becoming self-employed meant I had freedom.
But here I was, still letting my work control my life.
📌 What’s the point of being self-employed if you still have to take calls at dinner?
📌 What’s the cost of a lead if it comes at the expense of time with your family?
What Changed When We Took Control
Since we fired our lead generation companies and built our own systems:
✅ I decide when I take calls and when I don’t.
✅ I don’t feel pressure to chase every lead.
✅ Our cost per lead dropped to $10-$12, so missing one isn’t a big deal.
The Bottom Line
🚀 If your lead generation system forces you to work when you don’t want to, it’s not really freedom.
🚀 When you own your system, YOU control your time—not the other way around.
For me, the real win wasn’t just lowering our cost per lead.
It was getting back the freedom to choose how I spend my time.
