Three Trips Into My Office
This morning I sat down to work, and my husband cooked breakfast and brought it to me at my desk. A little while later he came back and cleared my plate, picking up my favorite cup that had sat in my office overnight. Five minutes after that, he returned with the cup washed and filled with our favorite morning drink.
I thanked him each time. And as he walked out the third time, I added, "You're taking very good care of me, and I appreciate it."
He stopped, smiled, and nodded.
Here's the thing: acts of service are how he shows love. And noticing it out loud is how I make sure he knows it lands. Appreciation that stays in your head doesn't count for much. Said out loud, it keeps the flame lit, and it keeps the person quietly doing the dishes from ever feeling invisible.
Gentle reminder for today: somebody in your life is probably taking care of you in small ways that are easy to miss. Catch one, and say so.
When's the last time someone took care of you in a small way? I'd love to hear it.
