Fear of God
The Fear of the Lord – Proverbs 8:13
Proverbs 8:13 says, “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth I hate.” This verse teaches us that fearing the Lord is not about being terrified of Him, but about showing deep respect, honor, and reverence toward God. It is recognizing His holiness, His authority, and His righteousness, and choosing to align our lives with His will.
To fear the Lord means to turn away from everything that offends Him—sin, pride, arrogance, lies, and wickedness. When we truly respect God, we cannot love the things that He hates. Instead, we grow in wisdom, humility, and obedience. The fear of the Lord becomes the foundation for wise living because it directs our hearts toward purity and truth.
Living in the fear of the Lord also brings blessings. It protects us from wrong choices, keeps us humble, and draws us closer to God’s presence. It helps us live with integrity and experience inner peace. Ultimately, the fear of the Lord is not about bondage but about freedom—the freedom to walk in righteousness, to reject evil, and to live a life that honors God.
