A New Skill Added to the Journey 🎨
I finally took the plunge and glazed one of my oil paintings… and I have to admit, I really enjoyed it! 🙈✨ It’s my very first time glazing an oil painting, so there are definitely things I’ll do differently next time, but that’s all part of the learning, isn’t it? 🙈❤️ I love that no matter how long you’ve been creating, there’s always something new to discover. Every painting teaches us something, and every new skill adds another little brushstroke to the journey. Here’s to trying new things, embracing the imperfections, and becoming a little better each time. 💜🎨

Dippy the Tippy Mascot?
We were laughing again today in class over Dippy the Tippy. I think it has staying power. And I could not resist doing a bit of imagining with some AI help. I told it about the group and what Dippy the Tippy meant and I also related it to that fear of that first paint to canvas. Grok Imagine came up with two images and as I was downloading them, a childhood memory surfaces of a mechanical bird that bobbed down to drink and back up. I asked Google and it immediately found the right novelty and get this...it is sometimes called the Dippy Bird! So then I took all that into ChatGPT - yeah, I treat AI's like we have a secret club and I just can't stand to exclude any of them. HAHAHAHA And it came up with several more versions. I'm attaching all the ideas plus a pic of the bird. What floats your boat? Do you have a differing idea while looking at these? Any and all comments are welcome. This was not run by @Michelle Cyr first so she has an ironclad "Nutt'n to do with any of this." Except, well, she did start the whole thing. 🤣 I'm almost afraid of the song @LM Sharron might create...

I'm not sure who needs to hear this.....
What you are doing, today, tomorrow, right now in life, YOU ARE ENOUGH. You are doing enough, you are saying enough and all that you are is enough. Don't give up on your dreams. Throw paint like a 4 year old. And remember that nothing is forever. It will all work out. I love you guys. More than I can say in words. You have no idea how much YOU fill my cup Every fucking day.

What's the difference between GLAZE and VARNISH?
And why the hell do I even care? Glaze - This is an amazing layer for basically when you want to add a different effect or even add more contrast or change the color tone. It can make your darks darker (but not so dark that they read black - we never want that). It can make your lights, lighter (very cautiously), and your sand, pinker. It meant to add depth to your paintings. You can ad one glaze layer (of a variety of colors) or 10! Glaze is a mixture of paint, Mineral spirits and Linseed Stand oil. I am working on a lesson on this. ________________________ Varnish - this is a clear protective layer and the FINAL layer. It's clear and acts as a sacrificial layer - basically, the varnish collects the dirt and grime. Varnish also plays an important role in that it unifies the sheen of a painting which can be all different sheens when you use glaze layers. Then it can be removed and re-varnished and not injured the paint at all. This is how the pros do it but man, I see a MEGA TON of pros applying it WRONG on YouTube and instagram. UGH I will demo this too. First two pics are of Kates painting that she glazed with more pink in the sky and sand. I'll have to edit my varnish videos. Coming soon.
