WHEN YOUR BODY FORCES A SLOWDOWN AND YOUR BRAIN REFUSES TO COOPERATE
WHEN THE BODY SAYS REST BUT THE BRAIN SAYS GO
Since Thursday I felt quite a bit rough.
It started with a sore throat which led to losing my voice and then a full cold kind of kicked in over the weekend which meant I had a much slower weekend than planned.
I was supposed to do quite a bit of sorting out in the house ready for the big move to Bali, but instead of pushing through and doing things that my body was clearly telling me not to do, I decided it was going to be a weekend of rest.
But that did come with a lot of overthinking and contemplation.
Having mixed neurodiversities means that my brain doesn’t switch off, and when something is planned it’s hard to step away from those plans because change in any form can be really difficult.
THE BUILDERS THAT DIDN’T SHOW
Builders were meant to be coming out on Thursday and they didn’t show, which was really frustrating because I waited in all day for them and couldn’t contact anybody to find out what was happening.
Nobody was answering the phone.
Then Friday came around and they still didn’t turn up first thing in the morning.
Eventually I managed to get through to the company that was sending the builders at around 11am and he told me they would be with me within an hour or so.
It was definitely longer than an hour.
But they finally turned up.
SOLAR PANELS AND HOUSE CHAOS
The solar panels were put onto the house which is amazing and something I’m really happy about.
But it did mean disruption.
There was drilling noise.Electricity needed to be turned off.
My kitchen had to be taken apart.
More wires needed to be run which nobody had actually told me about beforehand.
So Friday was quite distracting in every sense of the word.
There was so much going on around me and my mind was in a bit of overdrive while also not feeling great physically.
A LITTLE BIT OF NORMALITY FOR LILY
On Saturday Lily had a friend come and stay which was really nice for her.
I love listening to them giggling and laughing away.
They’ve been friends since year five at school and now Lily isn’t in school anymore she doesn’t see this friend very often, so they were making the most of it while we’re still here and having her stay over.
WHEN NEURODIVERSE REALITIES COLLIDE WITH TEENAGE LIFE
But that also comes with some complexities for Lily.
She wants to be like everybody else and do the same things as everybody else, but her complexities mean that although she’s in the body of a 13-year-old, mentally and emotionally she is younger.
She doesn’t fully grasp the dangers associated with certain social media platforms.
So she’s not allowed to have them.
When her friend was here using those platforms Lily felt very much out of place because she couldn’t have them herself.
That led to a pretty firm conversation about the platforms and why she’s not allowed to have them.
She does understand the reasons.
But that doesn’t stop the disappointment or the feeling of being different to everyone else. 💗
