Whats up everyone? I'm like 95% done with the mixing intensive that occurred maybe a month ago. I took my time with it and used the same Pop/rock song for the entire intensive as I wanted to focus on a genre that I don't always have an opportunity to mix.
I must've misunderstood from the beginning but I waa under the impression that we'd be mixing with a limiter on...I've never done this in the past and I found it helpful until I turned the limiter off. I was around -20dbfs but I liked the way the mix turned out (or to say the least, I was sick of it and ready to move on) since I did the mastering intensive awhile back as well, I decided to practice mastering too....with more than enough headroom.
I was just wondering, is it normal to have a final mix at -20dbfs? It didnt bother me as I just brought the gain up when I brought it into the mastering stage.
Overall, as a first time mixing a live band/rock, I'm happy with the way it turned out, there's certain things to tweak, and I had mixed reviews for what I could focus on next time while mixing a similar song, I would 100% bring the bass down a little bit too but it was great to learn with, I just don't know if its normal to have such a low final mix
