Notes | What is Freelancing | Learn Smart Freelancing - Earn HALAL
This is my second note. I have watched lecture video "WHAT IS FREELANCING" four to five times today and able to described in my own words what i have understood under heading of "Lean Smart Freelancing - Earn Halal".
will request to seniors if any thing is wrongly described or missed here, please correct me.
Introduction of Freelancing:
  • Work as per your convenience/ Flexible working hours and rigid less location, no time bound like traditional office time 9am to 5pm.
  • Broader scope, as you are specialist in your field (web developer/ creative designer/ accountant) likewise you should be equipped/ learned other areas like marketing of your product, selling of product and managing of your product.
Principle of Freelancing:
  • Self-disciplined and Time management, when you are owner yourself then you have freedom and free from all types of accountability. In a normal job, there is Boss who gives daily tasks and ask deliverables of all tasks but here freelancers are free from all such restrictions.
  • Freelancer person must be self disciplined and time conscious, he should know how to get business, deliver result on committed time to his client as there are many projects going on at the same time so time management is success key in freelancing.
Client Communication:
  • As a freelancer, you have to perform multiple tasks like marketer, project manager, fee receivable officer and service provider. For each task different communication skills are required for example when you pitch your project to a client at that time your communication should be very clear, simple and both client and you must be on same page/understanding.
  • After delivering a project you should be responsive as he is or can be your future prospective customer.
Quality work:
  •  As Quality work is required in every job likewise it’s very important in Freelancing. Every freelancer must give the best service level to his client whether the client pays low or high fees.
Consistency and Commitment:
  • Consistency and commitment is an important principle that any freelancer should demonstrate. At an initial stage full dedication is required because you have to perform multiple operations solely even sometimes 15 to 18 hours working are needed because project timelines are thin and most clients ask for their project at the earliest basis.
  • In case of lack of consistency and commitment a good freelancer can loss good clients and their trust.
Portfolio and Feedback:
  • Portfolio is like a presentation or past projects summarized in detail. Every new client asks your portfolio to review your expertise and clientele. You may be asked to do different jobs, here you should always think why should i do this job and what’s the reason or end result of this job, if you go in job detail and visualize what’s outcome then your work will be more shine and different from others in market.
  • It’s important to ask client what he wants in his project and suggest him to get free trial of the project rather than review the Portfolio. Trial will give actual hard and soft skills of your expertise and client will be in comfort phase may be your free trial is more better than expectation of client and his feedback in market will more worthy as compare to your portfolio.
  • Finally get such client as regular customer for future not prospective customer and this is  possible with your quick response, timely feedback and value added services.
Networking and Relationship building:
  • An important principle that helps not only in Freelancing field but in your personal life as       well. It’s necessary to have strong connections in the market related to the workforce like editors and developers, sometimes additional projects are received and you accept offers then you need a temporary work force to deliver over accepted projects.
  • It’s very important to get business through referrals, collaborations, and genuine connections through offering value added and community based services.
Negotiation Skils:
  • For better negotiation you should know the market price of your project work. Full understanding of client requirement including what is core purpose of this project and how you may boost your client into market further provide him value added services to get better price of your project.
Continuous Learning:
  • It’s an ongoing process and every freelancer should update his skills to excel against competitors in market.
Financial Management:
  • Every freelancer must have know how of basic finance related to project budgets/ taxes and profitability that may impact his local and foreign earning.
Worklife Balance:
  •  Every freelancer should have a work balance between working hours and personal hours. Sometimes we have to give value worklife due to excess projects or urgency in delivery of any project but this should not be habitual and balance b/w both life is necessary.
