In our Expert Coach Community, we say that we take 100% responsibility for our life and everything that comes with it. This statement is so simple and yet so profound. Taking responsibility means not blaming others, our circumstances, or the problems we faced in the past that have contributed to the outcomes we experience today. Although, this may sound very tough because everything has a cause and effect, only we can affect positive change. So, there is no use in blaming others for our losses, shortcomings, or goals we never met, even if we are not satisfied. When we take responsibility, we accept having to take things into our own hands and accepting whatever outcomes we face due to our actions or lack thereof.
We often expect others to be accountable for their actions and take responsibility. However, we must remember that this same rule also applies to us. Nevertheless, since we are humans and no one is perfect, we should not feel bad about our past inability to take responsibility. Negative emotions can harm our progress because they can shut down our creativity, making us blind to see what may be possible. Consequently we lose valuable time. However, becoming aware of our mistakes without pressuring ourselves with guilt feelings is a big step towards self-improvement, which can lead to success. After all, we cannot change past events, but we can improve our current actions to ensure a positive future.
