Coaching Boundaries
Wanted to share my experience with boundary setting as a coach. As my number of clients has been increasing, It's been harder to have loose boundaries. When I started in a helping profession I was posed with the question "What types of people and issues are you comfortable and uncomfortable working with?". My answer was something to the tune of "I'm comfortable with everything and everyone, obviously!".
I'm now learning that its not a bad thing to be aware of you strengths and weaknesses but actually a beneficial skill. I can't help EVERYONE and that's okay. Confidently referring someone to another coach or service when it's outside of our wheelhouse is better for everyone. Being clear about the coach/client relationship is better for everyone.
How have you handled boundaries professionally? Has it changed over your career?
