Are your relationships affecting your kids?
The smallest things create the biggest relationship problems.
Like this situation with my sister and brother's wife...
You'd think a simple wedding decision would be no big deal - but it triggered a family pattern that's still causing tension years later.
Here's what happened...
When my brother's wife got married, she invited my sister to be one of her bridesmaids.
Nice gesture, right?
But when my sister had her wedding later, she didn't return the favor.
Sounds minor, but that one decision created this weird underlying tension that nobody wants to address.
Even now, years later, if I bring up "the bridesmaid situation," everyone gets awkward. My brother literally pleads "Please, just... please no."
But here's where it gets interesting...
Both families have daughters now. My brother has one, my sister has two. These kids interact all the time.
And even though nobody talks about it... they can tell something's off.
That's the thing about relationship patterns...
They don't just stay between two people.
They create this ripple effect through entire families, generation after generation.
And the longer we avoid those difficult conversations, the deeper these patterns become embedded.
It's something I see all the time in relationship coaching...
People will do ANYTHING to avoid these conversations.
They'll pretend everything's fine…
Create elaborate stories…
Even cut off contact completely.
But avoiding the conversation doesn't make the pattern go away.
It just trains the next generation how to handle (or not handle) conflict.
Think about it...
When kids see us tiptoeing around issues for years...
Or watching family members create fake politeness to mask real problems...
What are we actually teaching them?
Point being…
Proper relationship coaching isn't about "fixing" surface issues.
You need to be able to spot these patterns…
Understand where they come from…
And most importantly - breaking them before they affect another generation.
