Then Alexander of Macedonia conquered the Iranian Empire in the 4th century BC. An Iranian rebellion led by the Arsacid Dynasty in the 3rd century BC established another Iranian Empire, which later liberated the country. In the 3rd century AD the Arsacids were succeeded by the Sassanid Dynasty of Iran that became a new Iranian Empire, which oversaw a golden age in the history of the Iranian civilization. During this period Classic Ancient Iran saw some of the earliest developments in writing, agriculture, urbanization, religion and administration.
