Breaststroke legs and timing
There’s a great breaststroke drill called “two kicks, one pull” which does what it says on the tin. Two breaststroke kicks (while I’m streamline position) followed by one pull and breath cycle. This video shows the effect of such a powerful drill with perfect timing as the result. You can see that as the arms shoot out, a split second later, the legs perform the whip-kick; increasing propulsion and driving the whole body forward through the water. The ultimate butterfly progression video
I came across this video towards the end of 2024, and I have always come back to it to see where I can pick up the next drill and improve my butterfly stroke. I really like the video because it's old school. They don't teach like that anymore. You can hear the experience of the coach as he guides us through each stage progression.
