Hi all - I've been struggling with high CPL on Google Ads for local clients and I know a lot of people here have been too.
I spent some time working through it last week, and here's a simple way I brought it down for less than $10/m:
- Run your Search Terms Report and add negative keywords to block irrelevant clicks you're paying for
- Switch your top keywords to exact match instead of phrase match to stop wasting budget
- Check performance by device in your settings — pause or lower bids on mobile if it's draining spend with no conversions
- Use Google's free Keyword Planner to find cheaper long-tail keywords that still convert
