This isn’t exactly a “how to write a book” tip—but it is a smart business move.

One of the underrated benefits of running a publishing business is that your normal expenses can quietly turn into experiences. I put as many business expenses as possible on my business credit card, earn travel points, and then use those points to book trips I probably wouldn’t justify paying full cash for.

🏖️ 🍕I have a sabbatical coming up in June, and I’m finally taking advantage of that. I’m planning my first trip to Europe and heading to Italy. I’m leaning toward Rome + Sardinia—history, food, beaches, all in one trip. I’ll likely keep it to about a week since I’m traveling solo and need to get back home to my little one.

What makes this possible is how I structure my spending. I use the American Express Gold Business Card, and advertising is one of my biggest expense categories. Amazon ad spend earns me 4x points, which adds up fast. (Yes, it’s annoying that Facebook ads don’t take Amex—but Amazon alone pulls its weight.)

The bigger picture here is freedom. This little publishing business pays royalties, covers expenses, and quietly funds travel in the background. Same money, smarter setup, better outcome. 💥
