Months 1–5 asked:
What do you notice?
Month 6 asked:
What are you going to do about it?
Month 7 asks:
What are you avoiding?
Avoiding conversations creates:
- resentment
- confusion
- poor performance
- damaged trust
- burnout
- micromanagement
- team drama
The conversation you're avoiding is usually costing more than the conversation itself.
Up to this point, the work has largely been internal:
- Know yourself.
- Trust yourself.
- Regulate yourself.
- Set boundaries.
- Communicate clearly.
- Make decisions.
Now comes the moment every leader eventually reaches:
"Can I stay true to myself when another human being is upset, disappointed, resistant, or defensive?"
That's where leadership gets tested.
