One of the bigger lessons I’ve had to learn and got reminded of during my reading a few days ago.. There is a difference between accountability and punishment. So many people think beating themselves up will somehow make them more disciplined.
Something throws you off plan.. then the conversation in your head starts. “I suck.” “I’m never going to change.” “I always mess everything up.”
How has talking to yourself like that been working?
The goal isn’t to become your own bully.. it is to become your own leader. A leader doesn’t ignore mistakes but they also don’t let one mistake define the mission. You have to adjust.. learn.. and move forward.
Hold yourself to a high standard. Just don’t hold yourself to an impossible one. Because growth isn’t found in self-punishment. It’s found in taking ownership, extending yourself grace, and having the courage to keep showing up anyway.
When you make a mistake, do you coach yourself through it… or do you condemn yourself for it?
That’s the conversation that will shape your future.
