Motivating your team is one of the most important aspects of being a Team Leader. You can't expect everyone to give out the same energy as everyone else, every day. As their leader, you must provide some daily motivation and hyping to give that needed boost to your team member's performance.

Many leaders today are promoted through the strength of individual performance, and then all of a sudden a shiny new title, but no training to support them. Just because you are a great individual contributor doesn't mean you can lead. Empathy is not saying "I'm sorry", but is understanding what is happening with the members of your team, and then showing your leadership to help them succeed. Empathy helps you see the individual, understanding what they might need differentially from others, making you a more effective leader. This isn't about forgiving or ignoring bad behaviour for example, but will give you the right inputs to determine your next steps.
