YUD ' The first letter in the Divine Name
We have now entered the second half of the month ELUL with the Full Moon. I thought the meanings and associations with the letter Yud were very poignant for where we are right now in our transition and journey.
Yud is the first letter of God's Divine Name, HaVaYaH. In Hebrew, it means existence, being and experience. The Tetragrammaton (as it's called in English) is God’s Divine Name made up of the four Hebrew letters yud-hei-vav-hei, expressing His transcendence of time and space.
In addition to Yud being the first letter in Havayah, the name of mercy, it is also the final letter of the name Adnut, the name which enclothes the name Havayah to reveal and express it to the world. Thus, the yud is the beginning (of the essence of Divine mercy, Havayah) and the yud is the end (of the manifestation of Divine mercy, Adnut).
"All created form begins with an essential "point," of energy and lifeforce, the point of the letter yud. The end of the creative process is as well a "point" of consummation and satisfaction, a yud. "In the beginning God created…" is the initial point; "and God concluded on the seventh day…" is the final point.
Yud (י) is the tenth letter in the Hebrew alphabet and has many meanings and associations:
  • Number ten - Yud's numeric value is ten, which represents COMPLETENESS and the FUTURE. In Jewish tradition, the number ten is associated with the Ten Commandments and the Ten Sephirot.
  • ONENESS OF GOD - Yud is the only letter in the Hebrew alphabet that is suspended in midair and singular in form, representing the Oneness of God.
  • HUMILITY - Yud is the smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet, representing the importance of humility. It is more important right now to BE HUMBLE than to try and convince everyone else that you are RIGHT. Spiritual enlightenment is bliss, however, spiritual haughtiness and pride are not pure. Pride comes before the fall. If you have reached a state of "enlightenment" in your walk, remember, you still KNOW NOTHING. Do not be puffed up, because you finally tasted and seen the Divine. You are not alone, many others have come before you. Remain HUMBLE, you are NOT GOD, GOD IS GOD, you are a PART of God and His creation, be HUMBLE and bow to HIM.
  • WORLD TO COME - Yud represents the world to come and completeness. Can anyone say, NEW EARTH!
  • WISDOM - Yud symbolizes wisdom, and its small size illustrates the small number of truly wise people. YES🙌 Very small number.
  • SUPERNATURAL - Yud represents the supernatural, the things that are above the physical dimension.
  • Third person FUTURE - When used as a prefix in Hebrew verb conjugation, yud represents the third person future (masculine).
  • SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DIVINE - In a name, yud may indicate a special relationship with the divine, as in Yehoshua (Joshua).
Yud is also the tenth letter of many other Semitic alphabets, including Phoenician, Aramaic, Syriac, and Arabic.
"The word yud means "hand." Sages interpret the verse: "Even My hand has founded the earth, and My right hand has developed the heavens," that "God stretched out His right hand to create the heavens and stretched out His left hand to create the earth." The right hand is the point of beginning; the left hand is the point of end.
In the above quoted verse, the left hand (referred to as "My hand" without any definite designation of right or left) appears before the right hand. This accords with the opinion of Hillel that "the earth preceded [the heavens]." The earth represents the consummation of Creation–"the end of action is first in thought.""
The yud of Elul is, in particular, the left hand, the controller of the month's sense, the sense of ACTION and RECTIFICATION. This is the final point of Creation reaching its ultimate purpose and end, the yud of Adnut perfectly reflecting in created reality the yud of Havayah."
Once again the month of Elul reminds us to go inward and be introspective. Take this time to deepen your relationship with the Divine and Your inner self. Remember that this life on earth as a human represents the yud - EXSISTANCE, BEING, and EXPERIENCE. Being ONE with GOD in the BODY He designed for you to exist in and experience the fullness of what it means to be FULLY HUMAN and DIVINE (SUPERNATURAL) at the same time. You were given the Body you are in, to STEWARD and take care of. You are the ONLY ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HUMAN THAT IS YOU! Remember, that to be ONE with GOD is to BE HUMBLE, to go low, and to bow and recognize HIS GREATNESS. Fill your hearts with GRATITUDE that we have been given this opportunity to live on earth as HUMANS, we won't get this chance again! Enjoy it while you can, for the future and world to come are getting nearer every day.
