Our bodies are in the present, but our minds have a rather impressive talent for time travel. And, frankly, they rarely take us anywhere useful. 😂
We revisit the past, replaying conversations, analyzing what we should have said, feeling guilty about what we did, or wishing things had turned out differently.
Then we jump into the future, imagining everything that could go wrong, preparing for disasters that haven't happened, and writing entire Netflix series about scenarios that may never exist.
Meanwhile, the present is sitting right here, waiting for us to notice it.
The past can teach us, but it cannot be changed.
The future can inspire us, but it cannot be controlled.
💥The present is where we can actually do something.
And this is where things get interesting.
When we stop fighting what has already happened and stop trying to control what hasn't, we create space for clarity, acceptance, understanding, gratitude and inner peace.
Not because life suddenly becomes perfect, but because we stop adding yesterday's pain and tomorrow's anxiety to today's experience.
Awareness is noticing where our mind has gone.
Freedom is learning that we don't have to follow it everywhere.
We can acknowledge the past without living there.
We can prepare for the future without mentally suffering through it in advance.
And we can finally experience the life happening right in front of us, instead of spending it rehearsing a life that exists only in our heads.
So, a little question for today:
Where are we living?
In yesterday's regrets? Tomorrow's worries? Or here, in the only moment where life is actually happening?
Because our minds might be excellent time machines, but we don't have to let them drive. 😉
