New Moon - Elul 5784
“In the beginning, the Divine created sky and earth.” Genesis 1:1 It’s believed that the world was created on the 25th of Elul (this year it's on September 27).
On the New Moon, September 2, 2024, we will enter the month of Elul on the Lunar/Hebraic Calendar. I have studied the lunar calendar and the tribes of Israel for 20 years. Maybe that’s why I was so easily attracted to the High Vibe TRIBE! Here are portions of my writings from some articles for the month of Elul.
The month of Elul, is the last month before Rosh Hashanah and is known as a time of prayer, repentance, and introspection. It is an intense time of spiritual preparation for the coming year. Some of the past titles of my articles for the month of Elul hints (not very subtly) at what this time should endure: Consider your Ways; Wake up you Sluggard; and Your Presence I will Seek.
It is a month of mercy and forgiveness, a month of love and wisdom. There is an open window in this month to work on ho'oponopono and inner child healing. Having mercy, compassion and forgiveness for YOURSELF and others.
It is a month when the Divine comes near and His Shekhinah presence is revealed. Also remember that during this month the King is in the Field and available for our prayers, requests and questions. It is believed that He is closest to us at this time right before the coronation when the ram's horn is sounded for Rosh Hashanah. Elul is like the days before the coronation, the Divine is in the field, available for our prayers, requests, and questions.
The letters of Elul form an acronym for the words Ani le dodi ve dodi li--"I am my beloved's & my beloved is mine" (Song of Songs 6:3). This verse is used to describe the particularly loving & close relationship between God & his children. Elul encourages us to view ourselves as loved enough to be vulnerable & honest in facing ourselves. Elul is a kind of annual honeymoon between divine and human. They say that a man who marries a woman for the sake of heaven - whose marriage is not for the desire to receive for the self alone but rather to contribute to the tikun of the entire universe - merits the same erasure of sins that takes place on Yom Kippur. While some marry for beauty or wealth, there are also those who seek a soul mate for the sake of advancing the personal and global tikun process. Tikun is a Jewish concept that refers to actions taken to improve and repair the world. A relationship for the sake of heaven supports Zeir Anpin consciousness, the desire to share abundance with the world, and therefore strengthens the entire universe.
Gad is the tribe of the month of Elul. Gad is Jacob’s 7th son and the second by Zilpah (Asher the other). In the first book of Chronicles chapter 12 verses 8-14, it tells us that the Gadites joined David in the desert and this description is given of them, “They were brave warriors, ready for battle and able to handle the shield and spear. Their faces were the faces of lions, and they were as swift as gazelles in the mountains…. These Gadites were army commanders; the least was a match for a hundred, and the greatest for a thousand. It was they who crossed the Jordan in the first month when it was overflowing all its banks, and they put to flight everyone living in the valleys, to the east and to the west.”
Leah is the one who named Gad saying, “A troop is coming.” In Genesis 49 Jacob says, “Gad, a troop shall tramp upon him, But he shall triumph at last.” Another version says it this way, “Gad will be attacked by a band of raiders, but he will attack them at their heels.” Ironically, Jacob’s name means he grasps the heel, because when he was born he grabbed the heel of his brother Esau and that’s how he got his name (see Gen 25:26). The heel is usually a weak spot. The first mention of the word heel in scripture is in Genesis 3:15. When the Lord punishes Satan for deceiving Eve he says, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." Wow!
As we enter the month of Elul, the last month in the Hebraic year, and the month of the tribe of Gad, God is once again warning us to watch our heels, our weak spots in this season. Do not be tripped up by your shadow self in this season but use discernment.
Another meaning of the name Gad is “Good Fortune.” This comes from the Hebrew root that means to cut or divide – to be divided out. At this time we should be seeking the wisdom only source can give us. This wisdom will help us cut and divide things in our life that would hold us back from the Good Fortune the universe has for us. Close up the door to your weak spots.
Gad’s name also means to organize a troop or company or collective. Source is calling us together at this time, calling us to organize our camps. Once we have personally come before God, we must come together in unity to become one with the universe.
In summary, Elul is a month of introspection and healing. Mercy and Forgiveness. Divine Love and connection. It's a time of preparation for what's ahead, a time to cut away and divide things from inside yourself and in your life.

Other celestial events in Elul/September:
"Super Harvest Moon will be on September 17. Then Super Harvest Moon Eclipse, occurring on the night of September 18. This celestial event is particularly special because it combines several astronomical phenomena. The full moon, known as the Harvest Moon—the closest full moon to the autumnal equinox—will also be a supermoon, meaning it will appear slightly larger and brighter in the sky due to its proximity to Earth.
During this event, the moon will partially pass through Earth's shadow, resulting in a partial lunar eclipse. This eclipse will be visible across most of North America, except for western Alaska, as well as from parts of South America, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. The best time to observe the eclipse will be at 10:44 p.m. EDT, when the eclipse reaches its peak. Although only part of the moon will be obscured, the combination of the supermoon and the eclipse will make for a striking visual display in the night sky.
On September 8, Saturn will reach opposition, meaning it will be directly opposite the sun in the sky and at its closest approach to Earth. This alignment will make Saturn particularly bright and visible throughout the night. During this period, stargazers can see Saturn with the naked eye." (dailygalaxy .com)
I like how Aaron says we can use these things as a permission slip. I would look at the SUPER HARVEST MOON as a permission slip to enter into the season of your SUPER HARVEST! How do we do that? We continue to do the inner work, and continue to become one with the universe! Then the harvest comes.
ELUL Series:
The 1st picture is of the tribe of Gad from the 12 tribes print (pic 2) by Bracha Lavee.
3rd Picture is a postcard I have of the stained glass paintings by Marc Chagall of the 12 tribes of Israel. This one is of Gad. It says in Hebrew, "... whom a troop shall overcome, but he shall overcome at the last." 4th picture is the original lithograph of what eventually became the stained glass window.
