I get asked all the time what my top book recommendations are…
I went to the book store recently and took a bunch of photos of my favorite books and am thinking of making a guide to the top 20 or 50 books I recommend
For now, here are 3 that are in my top 10…
- Autobiography of a Yogi by Yogananda
This is BY FAR one of my favorite books of all time. Back in the early 1900’s Yogananda (the author) came from India to America to connect the East and the West
This book was written by him and shares all the experiences and lessons he learned on his way to enlightenment
He met enlightened Yogis who would read people's minds, levitate, were sleepless, could materialize and de-materalize, bring people back from the dead and more
I know this sounds crazy… but if you read the book you will see that the author who was also enlightened comes with authenticity and something about it resonates
The premise of what I have learned from the book is that life is a cosmic dream we think is real…
The goal is to awaken from the cosmic dream and to realize your connection to God (the universe, the divine etc)
I meditate more and live a much more pure life since re reading this book again and again
(I’m on my 3rd time reading and read it every night before bed)
Word of advice, some people think the first 80-100 pages are hard to get through in the sense that it is slower to start
My best friend started to read it years ago and put it down due to that…
Now he picked it back up due to my and his wife's insistence and now he is STOKED and more into it that I would have imagined
This book has influenced SO many people over the years… the Beatles, Elvis, Steve Jobs and the list goes on
Steve Jobs read the book every year the last 40 years of his life and it was the ONLY book in the ipads handed out at his funeral
Also when Yogananda died he left his body consciously on stage in front of 1,000 plus people and for 30 days his body did not decompose
This is verified by many people I know it sounds like a fairy tale lol
He lived in California and founded the Self Realization Fellowships centers which all have a magical vibe if you visit them
- Awareness by Anthony DeMello
This is another favorite book of mine which is a practical guide to awareness
It’s very blunt in how it is written and talks about attachment, beliefs, overcoming suffering, acceptance and more
There is theme of questioning assumptions and beliefs that come from societal conditioning
Why do we care what people think of us?
Why do we stay attached?
Why are we trying to control life?
One of my favorite quote is on attachment and happiness
“You must choose between your attachment and happiness. You cannot have both.”
His main message is that happiness is a result of letting go of attachment
Not to be found in external things or situations
When you let go, you become FREE and this book explains that in a stoic and clearly practical way
- The Courage of Being Disliked by by Fumitake Koga and Ichiro Kishim
This is a book that will help you question WHY you want people to like you and how to break free
The book is a conversation between a Young Man and a wise older philosopher who believes in what is called “Adlerian psychology”
Alfred Adler was a psychologist who had some radically different ideas on trauma, the effect the past has on us and how to direct your life in a powerful way
This book helped me let go of my past and see trauma in a new way
As well as helped me to embrace myself more fully and let go of caring what people think
Here is a quote from it to give you a feel…
“It’s that you are disliked by someone. It is proof that you are exercising your freedom and living in freedom, and a sign that you are living in accordance with your own principles.”
And
“Why is it that people seek recognition from others? In many cases, it is due to the influence of reward-and-punishment education.”
This book was a quicker fun read and I found it powerful for reframing my past and being more courageous in life and expressing who I am
What books are YOU reading or have found super powerful?
I’m going to post this in my free community called High Vibe Tribe and ask for recommendations so you can see them and picks ones you like!

I gave up a majority of my screen-time recently and exchange it for reading and meditation
And I can tell you it has been a GAMECHANGER

Aaron Doughty
