One of the biggest reasons people stop making progress on guitar, is because they stop having fun.

It sounds simple, but it matters more than anything else.

If picking up your guitar feels like a chore, your progress is going to fizzle out. Not all at once, but little by little until you're barely playing at all.

The only thing that really keeps you moving forward is being excited to play.

When you're looking forward to picking up the guitar, even if it's just for a few minutes, that excitement keeps the momentum going.
