New lesson 🎸 How to Finally Feel Comfortable Holding the Guitar
I’ve been working with a lot of students lately who have been playing for months (even years) but still feel awkward holding the guitar. It’s way more common than you think. So I put together a full lesson that walks through everything: 1. How to hold the guitar 2. How to fret notes cleanly 3. How to grip the pick 4. How tight your strap should be, 5. A simple mindset shift that removes tension while you play. You can watch the full lesson here, and the transcript is included below. If you need the PDF or want to follow along step-by-step, it’s waiting for you in the classroom. Let me know if anything feels off or unclear — happy to help. 🙌

@Clemens Hackmack I actually have scoliosis in my back where my spine bends two different ways from playing a 13.5-pound Les Paul for over a decade for a bunch of four-hour gigs. 100% would recommend going with a lighter guitar.

@Clemens Hackmack yeah, it was my own fault for picking a Les Paul and thinking I could carry it around all the time like that, lol.

1 Song Forever 😳♾️🎶
Let's pretend... For some ungodly reason you're only allowed to listen to 1 song for the rest of your life. What would it be? I'm going the classic answer is "Bohemian Rhapsody" Because it's long and has so many sections, solos, vocals are all great. How about you?

@Perry Steinhandler Kashmir is great. I mean, all those songs are fantastic though. 😊 Kashmir is just one of the songs that got me into guitar.

@Kristina Dolgan this is really great today! 😊 You did fantastic! 🎸 As far as playing more steadily, there's two options. One of them is playing a song along with the recording because they'll be going at a steady tempo. In order to stay with them, you will have to too. The next option is to use a metronome, which is just a device that'll click evenly. There's a ton of great free phone apps, and I'm sure computer apps as well, that do that kind of a thing. You could set it to 60 beats per minute and try these same two strumming patterns with that.

@Kristina Dolgan whenever we play a song, we group counts where we count to four over and over again, or we count to three over and over again, or we count to six over and over again. You won't need to change the number on the right, really. But if you were playing a song that pulsed in three, you would want to change the number on the left to a three. For most metronomes, it changes the sound of the first click. So if the left number is 4 it would be tik tok tok tok and if it were a 3 it would be tik tok tok
New lesson 🎸 Train Your Fingers for Cleaner Chord Changes
A lot of students struggle with chord changes because their fingers aren’t moving cleanly or independently yet. It's not a finger problem ✋ - it's a brain issue. 🧠 This exercise trains your brain to send the right signal to each finger. It only takes a couple minutes a day, and you can make it easier or harder depending on your level. You’ll find the full lesson here, and the PDF tab is waiting for you in the classroom. Come back and let us know...which finger combo was the hardest for you??

@Andrew BRight that change is big in the beginning. It involves moving pretty much all of your fingers to opposite sides of the fretboard. 😊

@Kristina Dolgan I'm excited to hear how it goes. The pinky will get better with practice, I promise. It's just not used to getting a signal from your brain, so it's sluggish at first.
