GRAMMAR
Grammar is very important in IELTS Writing Task 2. To get a high grammar score (Band 7–8+), you need both accuracy and variety.
These are the factors you must consider:
- Reduce Basic Mistakes (Accuracy First)
Examiners look for:
- Correct subject–verb agreement
- Correct articles (a, an, the)
- Correct prepositions
- Fewer spelling mistakes
For example:
❌ The government should provide more support for citizen.
✅ The government should provide more support for citizens.
NOTE!!! Even small mistakes can lower your score if they happen often.
2.Use a Variety of Sentence Structures
To get Band 7+, you must show complex sentences, not only simple ones.
Use:
- Complex sentences
- Relative clauses
- Conditional sentences
- Passive voice
But remember: accuracy is more important than difficulty.
3.Avoid Overcomplicating
Many students try to write very long sentences and make many grammatical mistakes.
❌ Very long and confusing sentence
✅ Clear and controlled complex sentence
Clarity helps you get a better score.
4.Use Advanced Grammar Carefully
To reach Band 7+, you can sometimes use:
- Inversion: Not only does this policy reduce costs, but it also improves efficiency.
- Participle clauses: By investing in public transport, the government can reduce traffic congestion.
NOTE!!! Use these only if you are confident.
