Given these severe environmental consequences, continuing to allow their unrestricted use seems irresponsible. Another important consideration is that practical alternatives are readily available. Particularly, reusable cloth or paper bags are more environmentally friendly and can be used multiple times, reducing overall waste. Although some argue that banning plastic bags may inconvenience consumers or increase costs for businesses, such challenges are minor compared to the environmental benefits. In fact, several countries that have introduced bans or taxes on plastic bags have successfully reduced plastic waste without significant economic disruption. In conclusion, due to the serious environmental damage caused by plastic shopping bags and the existence of sustainable substitutes, I strongly believe they should be banned.
