This Made Me Save 2+ Hours, Work 5X More And Fall Asleep In Under 10 Mins
It was 10PM on a Sunday night last month
I had just finished my evening routine and I was ready to get to bed.
I had done:
Meditation
Journaling
Gratitude Journaling
Worry Journaling
Double Breathing
Stretching
Reading
Warm Shower
Everything in my evening/night routine was complete.
And I was really tired.
I said good-night to my parents,
hugged them,
then went straight to bed.
I then prayed,
put on my micropore tape,
and huddled into bed.
However,
even tho I was really tired,
thoughts then started to ensue my mind.
But not just any thoughts,
I was planning for tomorrow.
“What am I gonna send to that guy?”
“What YouTube video am I going to script?”
“What graphic should I put in the thumbnail?”
“What Skool guide am I going to make?”
“Should the topic be on supplements for sleeping better?”
“Or on how to wake up feeling energized?”
Funny enough I was the one struggling with sleep at the time.
I kept planning and planning and planning.
And I had some pretty good ideas too.
Problem was,
was that I just wanted to sleep.
But my mind wouldn’t let me.
It just felt like forever where I could physically not fall asleep.
I checked the time after a couple of hours…
“12AM??!”
And then another couple of hours,
and another couple.
Still planning.
I end up waking up late the next morning,
and guess what?
I can’t remember anything from the night before.
I then picked up my phone out of my bed,
and did the worst possible thing:
scrolling.
I started on YouTube,
then onto instagram.
A few hours pass by,
and I’m still trying to figure out what I should do,
however,
I come across this short that captivates me.
It’s this podcast by this sleep scientist I know:
Matthew Walker
And he’s talking about how when you have poor sleep,
because it’s responsible for your cognition and memory,
if you lose out on sleep,
you’re not going to be able to remember things as clearly.
Then I thought,
“oh shit, that’s why I can’t remember my plans…”
“Why don’t, I think of my plans for tomorrow before bed tonight, I write them down and then go to bed?”
And so I did.
And guess what?
I ended up falling asleep in under 5 minutes flat.
The next day,
I ended up getting straight to work,
got 5x more done compared to what I’d normally do,
and I had an incredibly successful day.
Lesson learnt: plan out the next day the night before in extensive detail
