What a first week we are up to 27 members and some great input. As you all know this is a brand new journey for me and probably all of you I hope you enjoy the ride so far. I love cooking and baking, specifically sourdough. So I combine my love of bread making with our glamping business and offer loaves to the guests and all our breakfasts include a few slices of my finest. Today's creations

How is everyone? Anyone snowed in? Anyone assessing their site and thinking about remedial repairs, longer term changes to protect your sites from the more regular extreme weather conditions. We are at 900ft in North Wales little protection from the wind which is our main adversary. Over the past 10 years our units have grown considerably more weather resilient. Our first big storm was 23 Feb 2017 Storm Doris, we had guests in our bell tent, well until 7.30 am when they abandoned the tent. By 12.00 what was left of the tent was ratchet strapped to the central pole. We closed for 5 days, then a new bell tent arrived and erected. For the next few years whenever a named storm was forecast we ‘collapsed’ the bell tent and moved the furniture indoors. Our biggest issue was with Airbnb, if ‘we’ cancelled it would affect our Superhost status. In 2017 it wasn’t a problem Airbnb were super nice, as time went on they changed. We would contact them when a national weather warning was forecast and ask them to cancel bookings. We would send them links to the weather warnings and they still refused. Our eventual work round was to send them an email telling them that if the guests came all liabilities for their safety was on them. It worked.

As I wake up I hear the howling wind outside and my first thoughts go to the recently repaired canvas roof on one of our units. I then check the weather reports, it is going to get worse before it gets better. What can I do I have been here before? 1. Finish my morning coffee, not a lot will change in the next 30 minutes. 2. Get into my wind protection clothes and go an inspect. 3. Check every guy rope, tighten any loose, flapping canvas is more likely to cause damage. Repair any guy ropes that look damaged. I did this late last year so I should be OK. 4. Check the areas repaired, I’ve got some more ‘type a’ tape so I might add another layer as reinforcement. 5. Double check hot tub lids are secured they have a habit in the past of turning into huge frisbees. 6. Finally make sure any item that could blow around is secured. Then time to hunker down and wait for the storm to pass.
